McCain to stump for Hutchinson in Arkansas Monday, Apr 10, 2006 Arkansas News Bureau LITTLE ROCK - U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., a possible Republican candidate for president in 2008, planned to campaign for GOP gubernatorial hopeful Asa Hutchinson on Monday at three different events in Arkansas. McCain is scheduled to appear at a $100-a-plate noon luncheon at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Rogers following a news conference. Later, McCain and Hutchinson planned to host a "Straight Talk America" town hall meeting Monday afternoon at Philander Smith College in Little Rock. Following a new conference, McCain was scheduled to join Hutchinson at a $125-a-plate fundraising banquet at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Little Rock. Hutchinson, a former congressman and federal Department of Homeland Security undersecretary, faces Democrat Mike Beebe, the state attorney general, in the Nov. 7 general election. "We're proud of the Arkansas support Mike Beebe has received," Beebe spokesman Zac Wright said Friday, declining to say whether nationally known figures would come to Arkansas to raise money for Beebe during the campaign. McCain, a decorated Vietnam veteran and former prisoner of war, has served in the U.S. Senate since 1986. |
