Woods to participate in LR fundraiser Thursday, Apr 13, 2006 By Harry King By Arkansas News Bureau LITTLE ROCK - Tiger Woods, the No. 1 ranked golfer in the world, will participate in the first Jackson T. Stephens Charitable Golf Tournament to be played May 29-30 at The Alotian Club of Little Rock, officials announced Wednesday. Warren Stephens, founder and president of the club, announced the five-year series of tournaments named in honor of his father. The invitation-only tournament has attracted players from across the country and will raise $1 million for five Stephens-supported charities in Arkansas. "As most of you know, my father loved golf and he also derived tremendous satisfaction from helping others," Stephens said. "This tournament allows his philanthropic work in Arkansas to continue as a tribute to his memory while recognizing the love he had for his home state and the game of golf." The beneficiaries of the tournament will be the First Tee chapters of Little Rock and Fort Smith, The University of Arkansas at Little Rock, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Arkansas Arts Center and Episcopal Collegiate School. "Tiger Woods has agreed to join us for the inaugural tournament and will host a special golf clinic for participants and children from The First Tee and Episcopal Collegiate School," Stephens said. The two-day event will feature a practice round, formal dinner at the Alotian clubhouse, golf clinic and a tournament for 72 players. All of the activities surrounding the charitable event will be private but select sports media will be invited to the golf clinic on the morning of May 30. |
