Pine Bluff sexual assault conviction upheld Thursday, Sep 7, 2006 Arkansas News Bureau LITTLE ROCK - The Arkansas Court of Appeals on Wednesday upheld the six-year prison sentence and $15,000 fine given to Rikko Smith of Pine Bluff, who was convicted last year of second-degree sexual assault. Smith was originally accused of raping a seven-year-old girl in 2004. In his appeal, he argued that the conviction was not supported by substantial evidence and that the judge in Jefferson County Circuit Court failed to provide the jury with essential information. The Court of Appeals, in a unanimous three-judge decision, affirmed the conviction, saying the arguments were not preserved for appeal. |
