Beebe ahead on contributions for August Saturday, Sep 16, 2006 Arkansas News Bureau LITTLE ROCK - Democratic gubernatorial nominee Mike Beebe raised more than $150,000 more than Republican opponent Asa Hutchinson last month, according to August campaign financial disclosure reports filed Friday. Beebe reported contributions of $679,664, compared to Hutchinson's $526,373, the bulk of which came from an August 30 fundraiser in Little Rock featuring President Bush that raised more than $400,000 for Hutchinson's campaign and $250,000 for the Republican Party of Arkansas. Beebe spokesman Zac Wright said a portion of contributions from Beebe fundraisers Sept. 7 featuring former President Bill Clinton were included in the August report from early ticket sales. The campaign said previously that public and private events with Clinton brought about $600,000 in contributions for Beebe's campaign. August contributions brought Beebe total fundraising to $4.99 million. Hutchinson has raised $2.8 million Both campaigns said they were pleased with the contributions for the month. "Mike Beebe is pleased by the grass roots support that brought him to the $5 million mark," Wright said. Hutchinson's campaign said both campaigns had close amounts of cash on hand and funding wouldn't be a problem in the race. Beebe has $1.66 million on hand and Hutchinson had $1.24 million on hand at the end of the month. "We're going into the last two months in strong shape and we'll have more than enough to run a winning campaign," Hutchinson spokesman David Kinkade said. Hutchinson's expenditures for the month were $447,464, including $267,525 on advertising, the bulk of his expenses. Beebe reported expenditures of $308,361, with the largest expense of $120,820 going to television advertising. Independent candidate for governor Rod Bryan reported $1,150 in contributions and $1,165 in expenditures for August, and has raised $8,491 overall. Jim Lendall, the Green Party candidate for governor reported no contributions or expenses for August. His campaign balance is $3,587. In the lieutenant governor's race, Democrat Bill Halter reported $78,010 in contributions and $111,050 in expenditures for August. Halter has raised more than $2 million, including loans he made to his campaign. Republican candidate Jim Holt's financial reports were not available by 5 p.m. Friday. Democratic Attorney General candidate Dustin McDaniel garnered nearly $60,000 more contributions than his Republican opponent, Gunner Delay, in August, according to their reports. McDaniel raised $97,040 in the filing period, bringing his total contributions to $216,789. DeLay reported contributions of $37,343 that raised his total to $176,862. McDaniel reported spending $27,696 in August while DeLay had $12,732 in expenditures during the month. Secretary of State Charlie Daniels, a Democrat, had contributions of $44,295 compared to $30,729 raised by his Republican challenger, Jim Lagrone. Daniels spent $18,448 and Lagrone's expenditures coming to $13,122 for the month. |
