Clark to join UCLA as senior fellow Tuesday, Sep 19, 2006 Arkansas News Bureau LITTLE ROCK - Retired Army Gen. Wesley Clark will serve as a senior fellow at the University of California at Los Angeles this fall, the university announced Monday. The former NATO commander and 2004 Democratic presidential candidate will join the Burkle Center for International Relations in UCLA's International Institute to teach seminars, publish papers through the Burkle Center and host an annual conference on national security. "Gen. Clark's involvement with the campus will add a unique and valuable dimension to the Burkle Center's exploration of the contemporary world and the role of the United States in global security and military, political, social and economic affairs," said Patricia O'Brien, executive dean of UCLA's College of Letters and Science, of which the Burkle Center and the International Institute are part. Clark said he was honored to join the Burkle Center. "I am hopeful and enthusiastic about the progress to be gained through frank and friendly discussion about the challenges we face to secure peace throughout the world," he said. "The Burkle Center is offering a vital voice to the international conversation on security and peace." Clark, 61, of Little Rock, graduated from West Point, was a Rhodes Scholar and spent 38 years in the U.S. Army. He was supreme allied commander of NATO during the 1999 Kosovo conflict. He entered the Democratic presidential race in late 2003 but withdrew from the primaries in February 2004 and endorsed Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry. After the Democratic primaries, Clark formed WesPAC, a political action committee. Clark makes frequent appearances in national and international news media, providing expert commentary on the occupation of Iraq, the war on terrorism and American foreign policy. |
