Five more counties declared disaster areas
Saturday, Jan 20, 2007

Arkansas News Bureau

LITTLE ROCK - Gov. Mike Beebe on Friday declared five more Arkansas counties disaster areas because of flooding and ice last weekend.

The declaration for Franklin, Pope, Prairie, Searcy and Van Buren counties brought to 12 the number of counties that have been designated disaster areas. Benton, Cross, Greene, Jackson, Miller, Scott and White counties were named Wednesday.

The counties are eligible for state assistance to repair roads, bridges and other infrastructure damaged by floodwaters.

Storm victims in Benton and Jackson counties are also eligible to apply for assistance from the state's Individual and Family Grant Program and the Temporary Housing Assistance Program, according to the governor's office.
