Fitch appointed to head Livestock and Poultry Commission Tuesday, Jan 23, 2007 Arkansas News Bureau LITTLE ROCK - Gov. Mike Beebe named a former state Senate colleague Monday to head the Arkansas Livestock and Poultry Commission. Former Sen. Jon Fitch of Hindsville replaces another former state senator, Phil Wyrick of Mabelvale. Fitch's father, Rolla Fitch, was the first head of the commission when it was established by the Legislature in 1963. Jon Fitch, 56, operates a farm and cattle ranch in Madison County. "He has the experience in both the halls of state government and the fields of his family farm to serve our state and this department well," Beebe said in announcing the appointment. Jon Fitch served three terms in the state House before being elected in 1984 to the Senate, where he served with Beebe, Morril Harriman, the governor's chief of staff, and Cliff Hoofman, Beebe's recent appointee to the state Highway Commission. |
