Hospitals to collaborate to improve care, education Friday, Jan 26, 2007 Arkansas News Bureau LITTLE ROCK - Arkansas Children's Hospital and the pediatrics department at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences announced plans Thursday to collaborate to improve health care and education throughout the state. The two institutions said they would partner to improve access to pediatric subspecialty care, support education and training of UAMS medical students and residents, and strengthen and expand regional clinics. "By making our services available around the state, thousands of families will not have to make the long trip to Little Rock for their child's initial evaluation or clinic visits for follow-up medical attention," said Jonathan Bates, president and chief executive of Arkansas Children's Hospital. Nearly 14,000 patients from Northwest Arkansas were treated at the hospital last year. The planned UAMS/ACH Center for Children in Lowell and 24 existing clinics are part of the collaboration, officials said. Some physicians employed in UAMS' pediatrics department will commute to the Lowell center on a rotating basis, UAMS said. |
