DHHS deputy director stepping down Friday, Apr 20, 2007 Arkansas News Bureau LITTLE ROCK - Former state Rep. Steve Jones of Marion will become deputy director of the Department of Health and Human Services next month, the department has announced. Jones, who served three terms in the House beginning in 1999, will replace will replace Deputy Director Ray Scott, who announced his retirement this week. Jones will start work May 8, overseeing the divisions of Children and Family Services, Youth Services, Child Care and Early Childhood Education, Services for the Blind and Volunteerism. His salary will be $108,659. Most recently, Jones was general manager of Crittenden Publishing Co. in West Memphis and the managing partner of The Apex Consulting Group, a private consulting and government relations firm. Scott, who has served under seven governors in a variety of positions, led the agency's efforts to reform the children's mental health system and led the recent merger of the departments of Health and Human Services. He plans to work as a consultant and pursue new opportunities with his photography interests, the agency said. "Ray took on some big challenges to help us move forward and we will continue to benefit from his work at DHHS long after he is gone, said DHHS Director John Selig. |
