Special justice to hear gaming suit Tuesday, Jun 5, 2007 Arkansas News Bureau LITTLE ROCK - Gov. Mike Beebe on Monday announced the appointment of C.C. "Cliff" Gibson III of Monticello as a special justice in a lawsuit involving electronic games at Oaklawn Park to be heard by the state Supreme Court. Gibson will sit in for Justice Annabelle Clinton Imber, who recused from the case. Gibson, 52, has been in private practice in Monticello since 1981. He has served as a special justice of the state Supreme Court in two previous cases. Hot Springs residents voted in November 2005 to allow electronic games of skill at Oaklawn Park. The following month, Garland County residents Glenn Gallas, Terry Mayfield and Richard McGrew filed a lawsuit in Garland County Circuit Court alleging that the 2005 state law that allowed the election to take place is unconstitutional. Garland County Circuit Judge Johnny Lineberger dismissed the suit in May 2006. The plaintiffs are appealing that ruling. |
