First woman banking commissioner takes oath Wednesday, Jun 20, 2007 Arkansas News Bureau LITTLE ROCK - Candace Franks was sworn in as state bank commissioner Tuesday, the first woman to head the State Bank Department. More than 100 people crowded into the Old Supreme Court chamber at the state Capitol as Franks took the oath of office administered by Justice Donald Corbin. Gov. Mike Beebe, who appointed Franks, attended the event. "Our agency will continue to provide fair and practical assistance," Franks said. A 27-year Bank Department veteran, Franks replaces Robert H. "Bunny" Adcock, whose term recently expired. Adcock was appointed commissioner in 2003 by then-Gov. Mike Huckabee. Franks joined the department in 1980, and was named deputy bank commissioner in 1995. |
