Alltel completes $5 million network expansion in Arkansas
Wednesday, Jun 20, 2007

LITTLE ROCK - Alltel Corp. announced Tuesday that it had completed a $5 million expansion in Arkansas with the activation of 15 new digital cell sites.

The sites will expand wireless coverage and network quality across the state, the company said.

"This investment in the network reflects Alltel's commitment to providing the best service to Arkansas wireless customers in both rural and larger communities across the Natural State," said Natalie Gentry, Alltel's vice president of retail services for Arkansas.

Planning and construction of the cell sites began up to six months ago, well before publicly traded Alltel announced it had entered into an agreement to be taken private for $26.3 billion, Alltel spokesman Andrew Moreau said Tuesday.

Under the agreement with TPG and GS Capital Partners, Alltel is allowed to continue to make capital investments already in its current capital expenditure budget, but is limited on the amount of new investment it can make while the buyout transaction is pending.

In a preliminary proxy filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission last week, Alltel disclosed that it is prohibited from making any investment "in excess of $75 million individually or $100 million in the aggregate" while the deal is pending.

The deal is expected to close sometime next year.

Moreau said the deal does not inhibit the company's plans.

"We'll continue to invest in the network as we always have," Moreau said. "It'll be business as usual."

The new digital cell cites are located in the cities of Little Rock, Fayetteville, Fort Smith, Conway and Jonesboro, and in and around the communities of Van Buren, Brinkley, Kingston, Shirley, Humphrey, London, Atkins, Springfield, Mountain Pine and Yellville.
