Appellate court filing fee to increase Friday, Jun 22, 2007 Arkansas News Bureau LITTLE ROCK - The filing fee for the state Supreme Court and state Court of Appeals will increase by $50 from $100 to $150, effective July 31, the high court said Thursday in an order. The Legislature approved the increase this year. Supreme Court Clerk Leslie Steen said the increase would cover rising operating costs for the Supreme Court library, which he said are not covered by a state appropriation. The court filing fee has not been raised in more than 20 years, Steen said. Also Thursday, the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals announced the creation of a pilot program for attorneys to file briefs online. The new program is to begin Sept. 1. An exploratory committee, which recommended the new filing procedure, was instructed to develop the procedures necessary to implement the new process, according to Thursday's Supreme Court order. The committee was also asked to develop methods for evaluating the results of the pilot program, and to make recommendations concerning the further use of electronic filing. ------- On the Net: http://courts.state.ar.us |
