BENTONVILLE - Vickey Boozman of Cave Springs on Friday announced her candidacy for the District 99 seat with the Arkansas House of Representatives.

Boozman's campaign will highlight issues such as immigration, the right to life, taxes, education, gun rights and infrastructure, she said.

"I'm passionate about many causes ... much of the fulfillment in my life has come from service," said the widow of Dr. Fay Boozman, a former state senator who was head of the Arkansas Department of Human Services when he was killed in an accident in 2005.

"I believe government should be limited to things people cannot do for themselves," Boozman, 61, said before a group of supporters on the Benton County Courthouse steps that included many children.

The District 99 position is now held by Horace Hardwick, who is term-limited. County Justice of the Peace Tim Summers announced his candidacy in May.

Boozman, a lifelong resident of Arkansas and 30-year resident of Northwest Arkansas, graduated from the University of Central Arkansas. She has three married children and six grandchildren.

She serves on the Arkansas State Board of Health and the Family Council of Arkansas, which is an affiliate of Focus on the Family. She is a member of the Benton County Republican Committee and the Church at Pinnacle Hills.
