UAMS participating in advanced melanoma study Thursday, Oct 18, 2007 Arkansas News Bureau LITTLE ROCK - Skin cancer specialists at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences are recruiting patients to study the effectiveness of an product to treat advanced melanoma. The ongoing study is designed to determine whether more patients with advanced melanoma respond favorably to a product called Allovectin-7 than to current standard chemotherapy alone. Melanoma is among the fastest-growing cancer indications, rising at a 3 percent to 5 percent annual rate during the past 30 years. The American Cancer Society estimates that in 2007 about 60,000 new cases of melanoma will be diagnosed in the U.S. and more than 8,000 patients will die from the cancer. Approximately 375 patients will be enrolled in the study, UAMS said. |
