Study touts effectiveness of small business development center Thursday, Oct 18, 2007 Arkansas News Bureau LITTLE ROCK - Arkansas businesses assisted by the Arkansas Small Business Development Center generated more than $154 million in increased sales in 2006, according to a study released this week. More than $14.3 million in tax revenues also were generated by such businesses, according to the independent study conducted by James Chrisman of Mississippi State University. "This illustrates the tremendous contribution the ASBDC and its clients make to Arkansas' economy," Executive Director Janet M. Roderick said in a release Wednesday. Businesses assisted by the center, which is headquartered at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, created 2,046 new jobs and saved 1,076 jobs during the year, the study showed. All businesses that received five hours or more of ASBDC consulting assistance in a given year are surveyed to compare sales and employment changes from the year in which they received assistance and the following year. Changes are then compared with the average changes for all Arkansas businesses during the same time period. |
