Ethics complaint filed against Huckabee Tuesday, Jan 29, 2008 Arkansas News Bureau LITTLE ROCK - A Bella Vista man on Monday filed an ethics complaint against former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, a Republican candidate for president. The complaint, filed by Jim Parsons, accuses Huckabee of violating state law by not reporting the names of donors to a private fund used to pay for his $40,000 portrait at the state Capitol. The complaint alleges the governor violated a 2001 law that requires the governor to report donors of gifts he receives on behalf of the state. Alice Stewart, spokeswoman for Huckabee's presidential campaign, did not immediately return a telephone call seeking comment Monday. Graham Sloan, director of the state Ethics Commission, also did not return a call to his office. The ethic director has said previously state law prohibits comments on any ethics complaints before the commission. Huckabee's quarterly financial interest statements, filed with the secretary of state's office, do not list specific donors to the special events fund or for a portrait. Last year, the commission dismissed two complaints Parsons filed against Huckabee over the destruction of hard drives from the former governor's office. |
