Early voting for Super Tuesday presidential primary starts today Tuesday, Jan 29, 2008 Arkansas News Bureau LITTLE ROCK - Arkansas voters will begin casting the earliest ballots today in the state's earliest presidential primary. Early voting begins statewide in advance of the pivotal Feb. 5 Super Tuesday primary, when 24 states hold primaries or caucuses to choose party nominees. Secretary of State Charlie Daniels urged all registered Arkansans to vote early to avoid election day lines and possible bad weather. "We all know how unpredictable Arkansas weather can be, and it can be treacherous in the winter months," Daniels said. "I strongly encourage all Arkansans to take advantage of the convenience that early voting offers, especially during good weather." Weather conditions were expected to be unseasonably mild today, with highs in the 60s statewide and a 40 percent chance of rain. Daytime temperatures were expected be in the 40s and lower 50s the rest of the week. Eight Democrats and six Republicans will appear on the Arkansas presidential ballot, although candidates from both parties have dropped out of the race since signing up to run here. Also, the Green Party will hold a presidential primary in Arkansas for the first time after collecting more than 10,000 signatures to qualify for the ballot. Each county will provide at least one early voting location, usually the county courthouse, at which voting will take place during normal business hours. Some counties, such as Pulaski, offer additional satellite locations. Democrats on the presidential ballot are U.S. Sens. Joe Biden of Delaware, Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York, Chris Dodd of Connecticut and Barack Obama of Illinois; former Alaska Congressman Mike Gravel and former Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich; former U.S. Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina; and New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson. Biden, Dodd, Kucinich and Richardson all have dropped from the race. Republicans on ballot are former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani; former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee; former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney; U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas; U.S. Sen. John McCain of Arizona and former U.S. Sen. Fred Thompson of Tennessee. Thompson abandoned his quest for the White House last week. Green Party candidates are former U.S. Rep. Cynthia McKinney of Decatur, Ga.; former Green Party presidential candidate Kent Mesplay of California; Kat Swift, former bookkeeper and co-chairman of the Green Party of Texas; and Morgan State University professor Jared A.
