Hino Motors hosts grand opening of Marion manufacturing plant Friday, Feb 8, 2008 By Jason Wiest Arkansas News Bureau LITTLE ROCK - State and Hino Motors Manufacturing USA Inc. officials on Thursday celebrated the grand opening of the Hino plant in Marion that began production in 2006. Hino officials also donated $10,000 to Mid-South Community College to support the college's advanced manufacturing curriculum and announced the establishment of an annual Hino college scholarship to be awarded to high school students from the 12-country Delta region. An independent committee of local educators and business people will select the recipients, beginning with the 2008-2009 academic year. "We've watched Hino's rapid growth with pleasure and anticipate many years of continued success," Gov. Mike Beebe said in a news release from Hino. In October 2006, the plant began producing axle assemblies and suspension components for Toyota Tundra trucks. Hino is a subsidiary of Toyota. Hino recently completed a $70 million expansion, allowing the plant to produce suspension parts for the Toyota Sequoia. The plant now employs about 700 people and represents a total investment of about $225 million. |
