After party switch, Bill Walters draws GOP opponent
Friday, Mar 7, 2008

Arkansas News Bureau

LITTLE ROCK - Former Republican state Sen. Bill Walters of Greenwood, now running as a Democrat for the state House of Representatives, drew a Republican opponent Thursday.

Terry Rice, 53, of Waldron, filed as a Republican candidate for the District 62 seat, currently held by term-limited Republican Shirley Walters, Bill Walters' wife.

Rice is the owner of Rice Furniture & Appliance in Waldron. He has not held elected office previously, according to his candidate information sheet.

Bill Walters said Wednesday he decided to run as a Democrat because he believed it would allow him to accomplish more in a Democrat-controlled House under a Democratic governor.

Shirley Walters said she will continue to serve the district by assisting her husband with constituent service work if he is elected.
