Home sales slow further in January Friday, Mar 14, 2008 Arkansas News Bureau LITTLE ROCK - The number of homes sold in Arkansas in January fell 26.6 percent compared to the same month last year, while the average price of homes sold rose 1 percent, the Arkansas Realtors Association reported Thursday. Statewide, 1,470 homes were sold in January for an average price of $149,091. Pulaski County had the most home sales in the state in January, although sales declined 17.4 percent from January 2007. Benton and Washington counties rounded out the top three counties last month in terms of sales, reporting declines of 33.5 percent and 38.6 percent, respectively. Home prices rose the most in Washington and Benton counties, however, reporting average price increases of 20.6 percent and 10.1 percent, respectively. The average price of a home sold in Washington county in January was $198,813, compared to $164,867 in January 2007. Saline County ranked fourth in January for home sales, which fell 29.8 percent there, the association said. The report contains data for more than 50 percent of the state's housing market and includes all the major metropolitan areas. |
