Governor announces appointments

LITTLE ROCK - Gov. Mike Beebe made several appointments to state courts, boards and commissions Wednesday.

Beebe appointed Watson Bell of Searcy as Searcy District Court Judge, replacing Judge Phil Shoffner. The appointment expires Dec. 31.

The governor also appointed Pat Moran of Rogers to the Arkansas State Claims Commission, replacing Joe Peacock. His appointment expires Jan. 15, 2009.

He named Lane Strother of Mountain Home as Special Associate Justice of the state Supreme Court for the case styled General Motors Corporation d/b/a Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac, Buick and Oldsmobile v. Boyd Bryant, on Behalf of Himself and All Other Similarly Situated Persons, Case Number: 07-437.

Strother replaces Justice Jim Gunter, who has disqualified himself from the case.

Also, Bill Wright of Arkadelphia was appointed to the Henderson State University Board of Trustees, replacing Carol Jo Atkinson. His appointment expires Jan. 14, 2015.

Beebe appointed the following people to the Criminal Detention Facilities Review Committee:

-Charles Chambers of Star City, Judicial District 11 West, replacing Stan Hendon.

-Ann Clark of Sheridan, Judicial District 7, replacing Arlis East.

-Lynn Evans of Lonoke, Judicial District 23, replacing Mildred Jones.

-Vera Harris of Holiday Island, Judicial District 19 East, replacing Greg Motzko.

-Danny Inman of Berryville, Judicial District 19 East, replacing Paul Arthur.

-Gordon Powell of Amity, Judicial District 7, replacing Michael Handloser.

-Randall Mathis, Arkadelphia, Judicial District East, replacing Dr. Wayne Bowen.

Those reappointed:

-Charles Jones of Benton, Judicial District 22.

-Harold Jones of Mena, Judicial District 18 West.

-Jim Morehead of Benton, Judicial District 22.

All appointments expire January 14, 2012.

The governor appointed the following people to the Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council:

-Norbert Gunderman, Jr., replacing Richard Taft.

-Jeff Priebe of Little Rock, replacing Fran Hickman.

-Cathee Terrell of North Little Rock, replacing Michelle Staggs.

Those reappointed:

-Charles "Tony" Hickerson, Fayetteville.

-Billy Artis of El Dorado.

-Rodney Barrett of Bentonville.

-Doug Duerr, Russellville.

-Todd Freeman, Crossett.

-Kenneth Starnes of White Hall.

All appointments expire July 1, 2010.
