Twenty-six counties declared disaster areas because of flooding Friday, Mar 21, 2008 Arkansas News Bureau LITTLE ROCK - Gov. Mike Beebe declared 26 Arkansas counties disaster areas Thursday because of damages from heavy rains and floods this week. More counties are likely to be added to the list, the governor's office said, because floodwaters are still rising in some areas of the state. The declaration allows for more efficient coordination and support between local and state emergency officials, the governor's office said, adding that the state Department of Emergency Management has made preliminary inquiries toward securing federal disaster support. Included in the disaster declaration are Baxter, Benton, Boone, Carroll, Clay, Crawford, Franklin, Fulton, Greene, Hot Spring, Independence, Izard, Jackson, Johnson, Lawrence, Logan, Madison, Marion, Nevada, Newton, Randolph, Scott, Searcy, Sharp, Stone and Washington counties. |
