Beebe adds four counties to disaster declaration Thursday, Mar 27, 2008 Arkansas News Bureau LITTLE ROCK - Gov. Mike Beebe on Wednesday added four counties to those declared disaster areas because of damage caused by heavy rains and flooding that began March 18. The addition of Cross, Monroe, Perry and Prairie counties brings to 39 the number of counties included in the declaration. While the highest water continues moving south toward the Mississippi River, state and federal response teams have begun more thorough damage assessments in areas of northern Arkansas, which the governor's office said is a key step in obtaining individual assistance for flood victims. Preliminary estimates put the damage statewide at $2 million, but the final estimate is expected to be far higher. |
