Home sales fall in February, but at lower rate Wednesday, Apr 9, 2008 Arkansas News Bureau LITTLE ROCK - The number of homes sold in Arkansas in February fell 12.8 percent compared to the same month last year, while the average price of homes sold dipped 0.6 percent, the Arkansas Realtors Association reported Tuesday. The decline in home sales was smaller than in January, when sales slowed 26.6 percent. Statewide, 1,922 homes were sold in February for an average price of $148,459. Pulaski County had the most home sales in the state in February, although sales fell by 18.7 percent from February 2007. Benton and Washington Counties rounded out the top three counties last month in terms of sales, reporting declines of 33.5 percent and 28.1 percent, respectively. Saline and Faulkner counties trailed in home sales, and there sales declined 6.1 percent and 1 percent, respectively. Garland County had the highest average home price at $195,529, up 0.7 percent. Saline County had the largest increase in price among the top five counties with the highest average price. There, home prices rose 13 percent, according to the association's report. The report contains data for more than 50 percent of the state's housing market and includes all the major metropolitan areas. |
