AT&T to invest $40 million in Arkansas wireless network this year
Wednesday, Apr 16, 2008

Arkansas News Bureau

LITTLE ROCK - AT&T Inc. announced Tuesday it planned to invest $40 million in Arkansas this year to add 34 new cell sites and bring its third generation wireless network to more communities in the state.

"This year's investment will enhance coverage in the places our customers live and work, and the planned expansion of our (third generation) network will allow more customers to enjoy increased data and video speeds while they are on the go," said Larry Evans, vice president and general manager of AT&T's wireless unit in Arkansas and Oklahoma.

The company plans to enhance its coverage in the Fort Smith, Hot Springs and Little Rock metro areas, in Benton and Washington counties, and in southwestern Arkansas and the Arkansas River Valley, officials said.

The third generation network, which allows increased data and video speeds on wireless phones and other products, will be launched in Texarkana and expanded in Little Rock, officials said.
