Home sales fall 23 percent in March, prices up Friday, May 9, 2008 Arkansas News Bureau LITTLE ROCK - The number of homes sold in Arkansas in March fell 22.8 percent compared to the same month last year, while the average price of homes sold rose 3.2 percent, the Arkansas Realtors Association reported Thursday. Statewide, 2,223 homes were sold in March for an average price of $153,812. In March last year, 2,879 homes were sold for an average price of $149,022. Pulaski County had the most home sales in the state in March, although sales fell by 16.5 percent from March 2007. Benton and Washington counties rounded out the top three counties last month in terms of sales ,reporting declines of 22.5 percent and 32.2 percent, respectively. Garland and Saline counties trailed in home sales, and there sales declined 10.3 percent and 27 percent, respectively. Washington County had the highest average home price at $193,449, up 5.6 percent. Garland County had the largest increase in price among the top five counties with the highest average price. There', home prices rose 8.9 percent, according to the association's report. The report contains data for more than 50 percent of the state's housing market and includes all the major metropolitan areas. |
