IT company to double work force, pursue commercial customers Wednesday, May 28, 2008 By Jason Wiest Arkansas News Bureau LITTLE ROCK - A company that provides information technology services annually for state and local governments in Arkansas announced Tuesday that it will double its presence in Little Rock to pursue commercial customers. CIBER Inc. hopes to double it's current staff of 22 in Little Rock within a year, area director Shane Davis said. The Colorado-based company, which provides $20 million in outsourcing, custom application and other services to state and local governments in the state, provides IT consulting services to mid-market and Fortune 1,000 companies nationwide. It began selling its services in Arkansas five months ago, recently landing an account with Nucor Steel in Blytheville. "We believe (Arkansas) is untapped territory for a company like CIBER and the services we provide," Davis said at a news conference Tuesday. "You've got a lot of companies that are really moving to this area. Welspun for example ... that's a perfect target for our company and the services we provide." Welspun Gujarat Stahl Rohren Ltd., an Indian pipe manufacturer, announced last July it would locate a $100 million plant in Little Rock. CIBER already has an account with Acxiom and does about $15 million worth of business with them annually, Davis said. Alltel Corp., Dillard's Inc. and Stephens Inc. also are companies CIBER would like to work with, he said. Shares of CIBER (NYSE: CBR) closed Tuesday at $7.03, up 11 cents. |
