Five towns get development grants Thursday, May 29, 2008 Arkansas News Bureau LITTLE ROCK - The Arkansas Economic Development Commission has awarded community development block grants to five towns for various projects. The grants, in their third year, are designed to provide cities and counties the opportunity to do various projects not covered under other funding categories. To be eligible for the grants, at least 51 percent of the people benefiting from the project must be of low to moderate income. Eleven applications were made this year requesting more than $1.6 million, the commission said. Amagon received $192,736 for the paving of city streets; Gould received $182,111 for street and drainage improvements; Lonoke received $219,350 for the construction of a sensory treatment facility for the Lonoke Exceptional School; Oil Trough received $142,675 for the renovation of a building that serves as a food pantry; and Ozark received $172,120 for drainage improvements in a low income area of the city. |
