David Pryor reappointed to PBS board Saturday, May 31, 2008 Stephens Washington Bureau WASHINGTON - Former Sen. David Pryor was reappointed this week to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting board. Pryor, a Democrat, was first appointed by President Bush in 2006 to the nine-member board that has financial oversight of the Public Broadcasting System and National Public Radio. He holds the board position reserved for a Democrat. His new term would end in 2014. The Senate unanimously confirmed his first appointment and is likely to do the same with Pryor's reappointment to a full term. The board position is unpaid. Pryor, 73, served three terms in the Senate and is a former Arkansas governor. His son, Sen. Mark Pryor, D-Ark., holds his former office. After his retirement from the Senate in 1996, the Camden native taught at Harvard and was the first dean of the University of Arkansas' Clinton School of Public Service in Little Rock. He retired from the school in 2006. The last Arkansan to serve on the broadcasting board before Pryor was the late Diane Blair. A friend of Bill and Hillary Clinton and a UA political science professor, Blair was appointed by President Clinton in 1993. |
