Report: HP to bring 1,200 jobs to Conway
Tuesday, Jun 17, 2008

Arkansas News Bureau

LITTLE ROCK - State and local officials declined comment Monday on a report that Hewlett-Packard corporation planned to bring 1,200 new jobs to Conway.

Officials scheduled a major announcement for Thursday at the University of Central Arkansas, and ArkansasBusiness.com reported several unnamed sources confirmed the nation's leading information technology company would place a major facility at Conway.

Matt DeCample, spokesman for Gov. Mike Beebe, said Beebe would be in Conway on Thursday but would not confirm the governor would be there for the 11:30 a.m. news conference at the Reynolds Performance Hall on the UCA campus.

Officials with the Conway Chamber of Commerce and the Arkansas Economic Development Commission declined comment.

Palo Alto, Calif.-based Hewlett-Packard employs 172,000 people and reported earnings of $104 billion in 2007.

Conway, located 31 miles north of Little Rock on Interstate 40, is the Faulkner County seat and home to several manufacturing companies, including school bus maker IC Corp. and Kimberly-Clark.
