AEDC deputy director to lead state chamber Saturday, Jun 28, 2008 Arkansas News Bureau LITTLE ROCK - The deputy director of Arkansas' economic development agency has been named to head the state's largest business association, official announced Friday. Randy Zook, deputy director of the Arkansas Economic Development Commission, will be the next president and CEO of the Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce and Associated Industries of Arkansas. Zook was selected after a four-month, nationwide search. The State Chamber advocates for policies and provides programs that seek to improve education, economic development, tax structure and a more competitive and prosperous state. "Collaboration will be they key to building a successful and prosperous Arkansas," Zook said. "This opportunity to lead the State chamber of Commerce allows me to continue this work at a different level and in a different arena, but with the same partners who share a vision for successful economic outcomes." A McGehee native, Zook earned bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Arkansas in 1966. Prior to joining AEDC, he spent nearly 34 years with Atlantic Envelope Co. of Atlanta, serving as president and CEO of the $200 million company from 1989 until his retirement in 2004. In 2006, he became chairman of the Central Ozarks Task Force for Economic development and currently serves as a member of the Melbourne Airport Commission. The chamber represents more than 1,070 businesses and business interest organizations statewide. |
