BREAKING NEWS: Democrats block Dobbins from ballot Saturday, Jul 19, 2008 LITTLE ROCK - The Democratic Party of Arkansas rewrote its rules today to keep former state Rep. Dwayne Dobbins' name off the November general election ballot. At their state convention, Democrats unanimously approved a rules change allowing the party not to certify the name of the former House member from North Little Rock for the ballot. He was the only candidate to file this spring for the House seat he resigned in 2005 in a plea agreement after he was accused of fondling a teenage girl. Dobbins pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor and gave up his legislative post in the deal with prosecutors. The Democratic Party had pondered what to do about Dobbins, who drew a Green Party challenger as well as a write-in opponent for the November election. |
