Verizon CEO to speak in Little Rock Tuesday, Aug 5, 2008 Arkansas News Bureau LITTLE ROCK - The chief executive of Verizon Wireless plans to speak here next week about his company's $28.1 billion purchase of Little Rock-based Alltel Corp. Lowell McAdam is scheduled to speak Aug. 14 at the Statehouse Convention Center. His appearance is hosted by the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service, which moved the talk from its facility to the convention center because of strong public interest. The acquisition, announced June 5, is awaiting regulatory approval and is expected to close toward the end of the year. It would make Verizon the largest wireless carrier in the U.S. U.S. Sen. Mark Pryor, D-Ark, will introduce McAdam, officials said. Alltel CEO Scott Ford said previously that Pryor has been involved with interesting Verizon in other opportunities in the state. Alltel employs 3,000 people in Pulaski County, and several hundred at its corporate headquarters. Those jobs are in limbo as Verizon decides what type of presence it will maintain in Arkansas. |
