BREAKING NEWS: Sen. Bobby Glover suffers stroke Tuesday, Sep 2, 2008 By Tyler Tucker State Sen. Bobby Glover, who represents Lonoke County, has been hospitalized in Little Rock after suffering a stroke, a Lonoke County official and a family member confirmed Monday. Glover, 72, who has served in the Senate since 2003, was described as being in good condition and conscious at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock. "It was not a bad stroke," said Patricia McCallie, Lonoke County collector and a close friend of Glover. "We think he will have a full recovery," said McCallie, who said she had talked to Glover twice Monday. Glover, a familiar sight at most Lonoke events, also served as a state representative and was the mayor of Carlisle for 10 years. He still makes Carlisle his home. McCallie said she was not aware of any activities that might have precipitated the stroke. "He is in very good spirits," she said. "He's doing pretty good." She said hospital officials are considering transferring him from the hospital tomorrow, Sept. 2. Glover's niece, Judy Cordell, said the stroke occurred Aug. 25, but "even a lot of people in Carlisle still didn't know about it." Cordell said Glover would be evaluated Tuesday or Wednesday to determine if he is well enough to start rehabilitation treatment. "He's doing pretty good now, but he had a hard time last week," Cordell said. Glover could not be reached. The senator, a Democrat who represents District 28, serves as chairman of the Legislative Facilities Committee and the Legislative Joint Auditing-State Agencies Committee. He ranks 30th in seniority in the Senate and serves as vice chairman of the Legislative Joint Auditing Committee--Executive Committee and the Revenue and Tax Committee. |
