Wal-Mart donates to ASU for cellulosic ethanol research Saturday, Sep 6, 2008 Arkansas News Bureau LITTLE ROCK - Wal-Mart Foundation announced Friday a $369,000 donation to the Arkansas Biosciences Institute at Arkansas State University that will meet the cost share requirement for a U.S. Department of Energy grant ASU received. The institute is pursuing the commercialization of bio-based product development built upon the state's agriculture and forestry resources. The Energy Department granted ASU $1.5 million and required a minimum non-federal cost-share of 20 percent to develop the technology to enable the biomass-to-ethanol industry. Officials hope the abundance of biomass in the state will benefit the state as the nation looks to wean itself of its dependence on foreign oil and develop alternative fuels. |
