Lottery campaign has $70,000 in bank Saturday, Sep 6, 2008 Arkansas News Bureau LITTLE ROCK - Lt. Gov. Bill Halter's campaign for a state-run lottery to fund scholarships had nearly $70,000 in the bank at the end of last month, according to a financial report filed Friday with the state Ethics Commission. The Hope for Arkansas campaign reported that it raised $11,000 in August and spent nearly $9,000. To date, campaign has raised $563,917 and spent $494,030. The bulk of the money raised, $425,000, has come from Little Rock real estate developer John Bailey and his wife, Patricia. The state attorney general's office certified Halter's proposed constitutional amendment for the Nov. 4 general election ballot in July. The Family Council Action Committee, which opposes the state lottery proposal, had not turned in its August financial reports by Friday afternoon. The deadline for campaign committees to file August monthly reports is Sept. 15. |
