John Brummett joined the Arkansas News Bureau in Little Rock in June 2000 as an Arkansas columnist and reporter for special projects.
A Little Rock native, Brummett has been writing for Arkansas newspapers since he started work as a part-time sportswriter for the Arkansas Democrat at age 16. He attended the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and the University of Central Arkansas, where he worked for the Conway Log Cabin Democrat.
In 1977, he became a reporter for the Arkansas Gazette. Since 1986 he has been a political columnist, first with the Gazette and, from 1994 until he joined the Arkansas News Bureau, with the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. He also worked from 1990 to 1992 as editor and senior editor of the Arkansas Times.
Brummett, whose columns and articles have won numerous awards over the years, is author of "High Wire: From the Back Roads to the Beltway, the Education of Bill Clinton," a book about Clinton's first year as president.
