Dennis A. Byrd is chief of the Arkansas News Bureau. He joined Donrey Media Group, the predecessor of Stephens Media Group, in 1996, after nine years with The Associated Press in Little Rock. He also has been editor of three daily newspapers -- the News-Times (El Dorado, AR), the Texarkana Gazette (Texarkana, TX), and The Benton Courier (Benton, AR).

Byrd covered the Arkansas Legislature for The AP, which has proved valuable experience as chief of the bureau. He is a native Arkansan, born in Little Rock, graduating from high school at El Dorado and from college at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia. Byrd and his wife, Linda, have two children, Dennis Jr. and Roxie, and two grandsons, Gunner Hopman and Branden Byrd.
