PISCATAWAY, N.J. —Arkansas quarterback Brandon Allen will not play against Rutgers today.

Allen was not in uniform as the Razorbacks prepared for their first road game at Rutgers' High Point Solutions Stadium. The sophomore — who suffered a shoulder injury last week — was wearing his jersey, a red hat and black shorts as Arkansas players went through their pregame routine.

The Razorbacks are expected to start AJ Derby under center. Derby replaced Allen last week and completed 4 of 6 passes for 33 yards.

Arkansas coach Bret Bielema said Thursday that Allen did not throw during the Razorbacks' three practices in preparation for Rutgers. He said Allen wouldn't play unless he had "100 percent" assurance from team doctors that the quarterback's throwing shoulder had healed.

Derby will be backed up by freshman Austin Allen. Brian Buehner and Damon Mitchell will fill out Arkansas' quarterback depth chart today.
