FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas quarterback Brandon Allen is questionable for Saturday's game against Texas A&M.
Allen missed the 28-24 loss at Rutgers after suffering a shoulder injury in the first quarter of Arkansas' win against Southern Miss on Sept. 14. He traveled with the team and watched from the sideline, but junior AJ Derby earned his first start and played throughout the game.
Afterward, Arkansas coach Bret Bielema said he didn't know if Allen would be available for Arkansas' SEC opener.
"II know he was out there, saw him in the locker room just now and I know he's hurting," Bielema said about Allen after the Rutgers game. "If he can go, he can go, and if not we'll continue with AJ's progress and development and see what we can do."
Derby completed 14 of 26 passes for 137 yards and a touchdown against Rutgers. Arkansas managed just 283 yards of offense in the loss.
Allen has completed 26 of 44 passes for 388 yards with 5 touchdowns and 1 interception in nine quarters this season.
"Brandon took some snaps (last) Thursday, but he wasn't anywhere near being able to throw this week and you can't play a quarterback that can't throw," Bielema said. "So we knew for him to have a chance to play next week, we went with AJ as the starter (at Rutgers)."
