FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas moved into the Southeastern Conference Tournament semifinals with a 4-1 win against LSU in Hoover, Ala., on Thursday night.
The Razorbacks, who are the No. 3 seed in the tournament, picked up their second win of the week in a game headlined by the pitching dual between Arkansas' Ryne Stanek and LSU's Aaron Nola. Both pitchers lived up to the billing with Stanek (9-2) emerging as the winner after allowing one unearned run on six hits over eight innings.
Arkansas (37-19) scored the go-ahead run off No. 2 seed LSU (49-9) in the eighth inning, when a squeeze bunt by outfielder Tyler Spoon scored outfielder Matt Vinson from third base. The Razorbacks manufactured two more runs in the ninth to build a three-run lead. Closer Colby Suggs worked a perfect ninth to collect his school-record tying 12th save.
The win pushes Arkansas into the SEC Tournament semifinals, where it will face either LSU or Alabama at noon Saturday. The Tigers and and Crimson Tide will play in an elimination game Friday afternoon. The Razorbacks have the day off.
The winner of Saturday's semifinal game will advance to Sunday's SEC Tournament final.
