FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas pitcher Trey Killian was named SEC Freshman of the Week on Monday.
Killian was honored by the conference after his performance in the Razorbacks' 8-2 win against San Diego State last Saturday. The right-hander didn't allow a hit in seven innings and struck out seven to lead Arkansas to a win in the first game of a doubleheader. Killian retired the first 17 batters faced and carried a perfect game into the sixth inning.
It continues a strong start for the Mountain Home native, who has quickly worked his way into Arkansas' weekend rotation. He is 2-1 with a 0.86 earned run average in four appearances (three starts). Killian has allowed two earned runs on six hits with 22 strikeouts and one walk through the first 21 innings of his Arkansas career.
Killian also is the second Arkansas freshman to earn SEC honors this season. Pitcher Colin Poche was named SEC Freshman of the Week last month.
Arkansas (11-5), which moved up one spot to No. 15 in this week's Baseball America poll, will be back on the field for a two-game series against Alabama A&M at Baum Stadium on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Razorbacks open SEC play at home against Ole Miss beginning Friday.
