LITTLE ROCK — The board of directors of Arkansas’ health insurance exchange accepted the resignation of the exchange’s executive director Thursday.
In a news release, the Arkansas Health Insurance Marketplace said Cheryl Gardner is leaving to pursue other opportunities out of state.
AHIM hired Gardner in 2014 at annual salary of $165,000. She previously served as director of Utah’s health insurance exchange.
Gardner resigned one day before the swearing in of President-elect Donald Trump, who has vowed to dismantle the federal health-care law that required all states to have health insurance exchanges.
Also Thursday, AHIM’s board named Angela Lowther as interim executive director. Lowther has been serving as AHIM’s director of policy and compliance.
