LITTLE ROCK — Gov. Asa Hutchinson on Friday named retired Army Col. Nate Todd as the next director of the Arkansas Department of Veteran Affairs.

Todd, who currently serves as the department’s chief financial officer, will replace Matt Snead. Hutchinson said earlier this month that Snead was resigning effective March 10.

Todd’s annual salary will be $99,602, the same as Snead’s, a spokesman for the governor said.

After participating in Junior ROTC at Pine Bluff High School, Todd went on to serve in the Army for 37 years, 33 of them on active duty and four in the Army Reserves. He has served as director of health financial policy for the Army Surgeon General and as chief financial officer for Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

He has a master’s degree in health-care administration from Baylor University and a CFO leadership certification from the National Defense University.

“Colonel Todd is a friend and a trusted public servant. I am confident that his distinguished military service, executive experience and health-care expertise make him the perfect selection to lead the department forward,” Hutchinson said in a statement.

Todd said in a statement, “I am thankful to God for the privilege of serving in Governor Hutchinson’s administration. It is truly an honor to be trusted with the incredible responsibility of serving as the director of the Arkansas Department of Veterans Affairs. I look forward to getting to work serving Arkansas’ 250,000 veterans and their families.”
