LITTLE ROCK — The North Little Rock-based Arkansas Regional Innovation Hub said Wednesday its new executive director is Joel Gordon.

Gordon has served as the nonprofit organization’s director of making since its launch in 2013. He co-founded the state’s first makerspace at the Hub and founded the North Little Rock Mini Maker Faire.

He replaces Rep. Warwick Sabin, D-Little Rock, who last year became senior director for U.S. Programs at Winrock International. That nonprofit organization merged with the Regional Innovation Hub in June 2016.

Gordon has been a fabricator, artist and designer for theater, film and television. He has also worked in industrial design and product development and is a former director of visitor experience at the Museum of Discovery in Little Rock.

Gordon was invited to the White House in 2015 to serve on a panel that discussed the maker movement’s impact on workforce and economic development. In 2016, he returned to the White House twice to serve as a panelist for the Convening of Makerspace Organizers.

The Hub said Gordon was integral to the formation of the Nation of Makers. He serves as the state’s make ambassador.
