LITTLE ROCK — A correctional officer was injured Friday in an assault by an inmate at the state Department of Correction’s Tucker Unit in Jefferson County, a spokesman for the department said.

The inmate was in possession of a handmade weapon, agency spokesman Solomon Graves said. The officer received non-life-threatening lacerations to the arm and torso and was treated at an area hospital on an out-patient basis, he said.

Graves did not release the names of the officer or the inmate.

The Arkansas State Police will investigate the incident, he said.
