The assistant chief of the Checotah, Okla., Police Department was hospitalized after an accident Sunday, according to a news release on the Haskell County Sheriff's Department Facebook page.
Haskell County Deputy Misty Johnson pulled up on a single vehicle auto accident at about 6:15 a.m. Sunday near West Liberty Road and Oklahoma 71. Once on scene, Johnson found Checotah Police Department Assistant Chief Justin Durrett trapped under his vehicle after being ejected. Johnson stayed by his side until he was transported to a Tulsa hospital.
The release states Durrett is in stable condition with multiple neck fractures and is awaiting surgery. He is a 13-year veteran of the Checotah Police Department and a father of two.
"We ask that everyone keeps him in your thoughts as his road to recovery continues," the release states. "Special thanks to the Brooken Fire Department, Quinton Fire Department, Quinton Police Department and Stigler Police Department Dispatch for their help today during this horrible accident."
