LITTLE ROCK — Wednesday night’s Powerball drawing produced a $1 million-winning ticket in Arkansas but no jackpot winner, pushing the jackpot to its second-highest level in Powerball history, state lottery officials said Thursday.
By late Thursday afternoon no one had claimed a $1 million ticket that was sold at the Crossroads Express II on Booth Road in Searcy. Lottery officials said people who bought tickets there should check the winning numbers.
No one matched all five white balls plus the red Powerball on Wednesday, so the jackpot continues to grow. It was estimated Thursday at $550 million.
The biggest jackpot in the game’s history is $565 million, reached in 2006 — three years before lotteries became legal in Arkansas. Depending on how ticket sales go, the jackpot could soar to a new record before Saturday night’s drawing, said Arkansas Scholarship Lottery business manager Patti Vick.
The Mega Millions jackpot, meanwhile, was estimated at $190 million on Thursday. Mega Millions drawings are held on Tuesday and Friday nights.
