LITTLE ROCK — Gov. Mike Beebe appointed two new state agency directors Thursday
The governor also named three members to boards of state universities.
Beebe appointed Preston Scroggin of Vilonia to serve as director of the state Livestock and Poultry Commission and Ricky Belk of Alma to serve as director of the state Labor Department.
Scroggin, 46, is the Faulkner County judge and president of the County Judges’ Association of Arkansas. A fifth-generation cattle rancher, Scroggin grew up on farms with chicken houses. He has served in the state House and on the Vilonia City Council.
The Livestock and Poultry Commission’s previous director, Steve Bryles, died in December.
Belk, 56, serves on the state Workforce Investment Board and is secretary-treasurer for the Arkansas AFL-CIO. He has served on the boards of the Fort Smith United Way and the Alma Community Outreach Center.
Belk replaces James Salkeld, who retired earlier this month.
Beebe also announced the following appointments:
—Shelia Vaught of Little Rock, to replace Rush Harding on the University of Central Arkansas Board of Trustees. The appointment expires Jan. 14, 2020.
—Ron Rhodes of Cherokee Village to a second term on the Arkansas State University Board of Trustees. The appointment expires Jan. 14, 2018.
—Leigh Whiteside of Russellville to the Arkansas Tech University Board of Trustees. The appointment expires on Jan. 14, 2018.
